    Purple Long-Tentacle Anemone Won't Plant

I've had a new long-tentacle purple anemone for about 3 weeks. The problem is, he won't plant his foot in the sand anywhere. He's definitely staked out his spot in the tank (i've moved him about 5 times and he always returns to the same place) but he just won't plant. He looks all sorts of healthy, and eats like a champ. My question is, is this a problem? Are there long-term problems with not planting his foot in the sand?

    Parameters:
    180g reef
    Nitrates: 0
    Phosphates: 0
    Temp: 79F
    SG: 1.025
ph: 8.0 (i can't seem to get it any higher)
    Calc: 430
    Alk: 9 dKH

here's a pic of the guy. The tomato is already very attached to the nem. He clears the sand around the crown of the nem (sometimes it lays down, sometimes it's standing propped in the rocks as you see it in the pic...always very open and hungry though).

Let him go where he wants to go. I will do no good for you to move him. They go where they want.

agreed, that's what i decided too. he's been in this spot for about a week and hasn't planted. just wondering if that is a cause for concern?

yeah, he might be expecting to get moved again, and not plant himself because of that.

My LTA didn't plant his foot very often. It ended up in his demise because he landed upside down behind a rock when I wasn't home. He was healthy as well. I would suggest leaving him be to see if he sets his foot.

Maybe you could put a couple of rocks around him so he could plant to the rock. I dont have a clue, never had one.

    nem

I had one that would not plant tis foot but went to the same spot every time. I tried to corral it with rocks and it just moved. Looks like there is only sand or crushed coral under it. Try placing a coarse flat rock underneath it to give it something to grab onto.

i thought that LTA's didn't attach to rock, but buried their foot in the sand (it is a sand substrate in my reef).

just an update...he finally planted his foot in the sand (in the same spot he'd been hanging out in for the last week and a half). looks all happy and getting fat on shrimp chunks.
